It would be really interesting if high level smuggler missions involved PvP as well.

Examples:

One player is on a pickup mission while another is on a intercept mission (kill the pickup player).

You could further complicate this by adding NPCs to the mix. One player is on an NPC intercept mission, while another is on a player intercept mission. Or one player is on a pickup mission, one on a player intercept, and NPCs intercept the player during the pickup.

You could also do missions based on holding contraband for a period of time. A player picks up contraband and needs to keep it safe for X amount of in-game time before an NPC comes to pick it up. You could mix that into the earlier mission types, and/or insead of an NPC coming to pick it up its a player - which can further be mixed back into the above scenarios.

Another cool mechanic would be if smugglers could splice vehicles and droids.

This could enable multiple different mechanics. Simple ones would be improvements like vehicle speed, droid damage, etc.

But to tie this to the black market - non-smuggler players could work for smugglers. Splicing a vehicle or droid allows it to carry contraband for a single delivery. The quality of the splice feeds into a formula to determine what kind of encounters will happen to the player during delivery. These could be - stopped by imperials, ambushed by NPC interceptors, ambushed by player, etc.
